I've eaten at the Germantown location 5 times now in the last year and every time something seems to go wrong. This may be because I try to stick to healthier food options which Huey's (or the South in general) is not known for. I've tried all their salads and as soon as you take the dressing, cheese, and croutons off you're left with an expensive 3 ingredient salad you could have made yourself after a shopping trip at Kroger (and without dry overcooked protein from Huey's).
I recommend Huey's for people who want beer and burgers and the feeling of fitting in from people who've lived here their whole lives. I don't recommend it for anyone who has lived in a tough restaurant market and is used to the level of quality/service/innovation that is required there. Personally I will not eat at Huey's anymore - but that's just one opinion from a health nut/foodie. Go try it for yourself if you want a tasty burger and beer! Thanks for reading.
I understand why people like Huey's. It's tasty if you don't care about what you eat. It's a household name that people have grown up with. It's unique to their hometown and they have a sense of ownership of Huey's. My experience as someone who has lived all over the world, eaten just about every popular cuisine there is, and is not a local who grew up with Huey's, is that the food is mediocre, the service is hit or miss, and the whole establishment always feels complacent (they aren't striving to make every experience incredible because they know people will keep coming back).
Burgers were well cooked! Good menu and friendly staff. Beer on tap and pitchers available. Thanks Emily! They were doing a trivia night when we visited.
We ate here Sunday evening with friends and I was not disappointed. In the past I have not gotten burgers and the quality of food was spotty. The burgers this time (mine was blue cheese) were a grand slam. Juicy, tender, not overly seasoned. delicious. My friends are from out of town and were very pleased. And I'm a big fan of the onion rings too.
First off, let me say that Huey's is probably great if you want a greasy burger and beer. This is what the place is known for. Salads at Huey's are about what you'd expect from a place that's known for burgers and beer - pretty lacking. Salmon is always overcooked and dry. very few ingredients with little thought as to what's actually healthy+delicious. (This is what people around here think a salad is - iceberg lettuce, diced tomato, red onion, shredded cheddar, croutons, and LOTS of dressing). Prepare for some funny looks if you pass on the salad dressing options or say no cheese/croutons. I know there are other salads at Huey's but they're about as innovative/delicious as a glass of water if you know salads.
Good burgers! Nice atmosphere! Bartender was very friendly! We enjoyed our experience!
I've been eating at Huey's as long as I can remember. It's wonderful to have them in Germantown. I love the food and staff is great. Trivia on Tuesday's is a good time as well. As if that wasn't enough, now they have tater tots, which really just takes it to a new level. Definitely recommend hitting up Huey's if you're in the Germantown area.
My theory on why people love Huey's is this: Huey's has been around Memphis forever and it's a household name people who live here have heard all their lives. That's huge. It gives the cooks and servers a pass on quality control because if anything goes wrong people think, everyone likes Huey's - they must just be having a bad day. The cooks/servers get complacent because they know exactly the level of effort they have to put in to keep people "satisfied" around here thanks to their established family name (very little, IMO).
